Materials: Frames and Paintbrushes
Frames
Used to stretch the silk so that it is taut enough to draw on easily
does not touch the table, which allows the paint to run under the gutta.
Get frames specifically made for silk painting. These are adjustable
which can be good if you only do one painting at a time and do not have
space to store a lot of different sized frames. You can also make your
own by
buying boards from a timber store.
Paintbrushes
To begin with, you need at least one small paintbrush, one medium with a
good pointy tip and one very large for backgrounds. Chinese
bamboo-handled brushes with soft animal-hair bristles are best: they
hold a lot of paint but always come to a sharp point as well. A foam
brush suitable for boarders and backgrounds are also available.
